Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden asked the head of theWhite House’a Automobile Task Force to determine whether the decisio to close Chrysler dealerships is in the best interesft of the state and the nation. “Irt is inconsistent with American values to force business owners to secure financinvg with their homes and other personal assets and then turn around and shut them down and refuss to buy backtheir cars,” Wyden said in a news “I’m also worried that some majoe population centers in Oregon won’t be able to get thei r cars serviced or have their warrantiea honored.
” Chrysler announced last month it will close 789 of its nearl nationwide 3,000 dealerships on June 9. Generap Motors, which filed for bankruptcy protectionh onJune 1, had earlier announced plans to closer the Bob Thomas Car Co. in Bend. The closingv would take place inOctobedr 2010. “If GM abrogates Bob Thoma s Car Company’s dealer agreement, it will have no distributiob or service outlets incentrao Oregon’s largest city,” Wyden wrote in a letter to General Motors. “In short, terminating theier GM dealership will negatively impacthe Thomases, their employees, GM customers and the communityg at large.
